NYCT MTA Design-Build Services for Broadway Junction Station Complex Enhancements
Brooklyn, NY
TCT provided cost and scheduling management services, including: construction costs at stages of conceptual design and construction cost estimate variance between design stages and design alternatives, support with selection of preferred design alternatives by providing the cost impacts of design options, support during risk assessment workshops to help owners with the needs of finalizing risk reserve budgets, and baseline construction schedule with monthly updates and time impact analysis reports.
Broadway Junction serves as a critical transit nexus, comprising three major nodes and accommodating five subway lines (A/C, J/Z, and L), bus routes, and regional rail service via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). The area is further defined by the convergence of major roadways, including the Jackie Robinson Parkway, Atlantic Avenue, Fulton Street, Broadway, Jamaica Avenue, and East New York Avenue. Currently characterized by elevated transit infrastructure, surface parking, and low-density land uses, the district presents a unique opportunity for revitalization.
The work on this project aims to achieve ADA compliance and improve passenger circulation and transfer capacities. This includes:
- Establishing ADA-compliant connectivity across A/C, J/Z, and L subway lines
- Constructing a new comfort station at Callahan Kelly Playground
- Installing ADA boarding areas and new elevators at all platforms
- Building a transfer bridge between A/C and L lines
- Replacing three escalators with two wider and one standard-width escalator and modifying adjacent stairway accordingly
- Adding new stairways at A/C, J/Z, and L stations
- Developing a new accessible control house and adjacent employee facility at the L Station
- Upgrading communications and MEP systems, including testing and commissioning
- Performing retrofitting and platform component repairs at J/Z Station
- Improving MTA-owned parking lot (Block 1555 Lot 1R)
